Home Sweet Wal-Mart

Last night Will had a little friend to stay for a sleep over. He is a very sweet child and was very good. They ate lots of Pepperoni pizza and played very hard until time for bed. I went on to bed early and Jeff tucked the boys in. I said my prayers and I was out cold UNTIL------ Jeff came storming into our bedroom around 1:00 AM and woke me by shutting our door rather loudly. Of course I sat up and asked what was going on. He replied by saying that "our little friend" had been coughing for hours and he was very irritated. I told him that he could not just simply close the door on this sick kid and pretend that he was not there. I decided that I had to go and check him out. Just as Jeff had said, the kid was hacking. This was not a robust productive cough but rather just a little, VERY annoying kind that came about every 2-3 minutes. I asked him if I could give him a cough drop and he said "no, once I ate one in church and it made me throwed up". (Yes, he said "throwed up"). Well, after consuming half of a pepperoni pizza, I did not fancy the thought of cleaning that out of my already dismal looking carpet. I then decided that I would offer him a cool cloth and a glass of ice water. He accepted and to make a long story even longer, this kind of thing went on ALL NIGHT LONG!!!!!! The boys had a soccer game this morning and had to be at the field by 8:30am. As you can imagine, I was/am VERY tired. Anyway, they played 2 games and lost them both, badly. After the games and we had given our friend back to his rightful owners, I decided that I would leave my two boys at our church and I would go to Wal mart and purchase our monthly groceries. I love my two guys more than a little but do not like to take them grocery shopping with me. They and I are much happier this way. So, I drop them off at about 1:50pm and tell them I will return in an hour or so. I get there and do my shopping. I spend about $300.00 and decided at this point I need to get outta there quick. Also, time has really crept up on my and it was a little after 3:00pm. Time really does fly by in there for some reason. I actually enjoy grocery shopping. I like buying things and thinking up ways to make good suppers. Ok, so then it is check out time and then out to my van. There she sits, poor little gold mini van that I have had forever. She is waiting on me with her "BAMA" tag and her "McCain/Palin" bumper sticker. I can tell she has missed me. I open her up and fill her to capacity. I open the front passenger door and deposit my keys on the seat and then I close the door and then it happened. My door made a crazy but familiar noise. My heart almost stopped. It was the sound of all of the doors locking. Even though I had pressed no buttons, she locked me out with my keys on the seat. I got very still and tried to remain calm. I did have my cell phone. I decided that I would just simply call Jeff (who, by the way, always keeps a spare set of keys to everything with him at all times) and he would drive the church van up there and let me in. I called him and got no answer. I called the church and got no answer. I called my friend Lauree and got no answer. I called my friend Anne and got no answer. See where this is going??? I tried 11 more people and got NO ANSWER. Ok, what to do??? Ah, I said to myself, how often do I come to Wal mart and not run into someone that I know. Thats it, I will just go sit in Subway and wait for all of these friends to come pouring out and ask one of them for help. 1 and 1/2 hours later, I decide maybe I don't know anyone in this entire place. Maybe I dont have as many friends as I thought I did. At least none of them were at Walmart anyway. My $300 worth of groceries were baking away in my van and I am sitting here like a zombie from sleep deprivation in Laurel Walmart subway on a beautiful sunny afternoon. I finally think of one lady who lives relatively close to the church and find her at home on the phone. I explain to her what predicament I am in and she says she will be glad to pick up Jeff and Will for me and bring them to me. I waited another 35 minutes for a trip that should have taken this woman about 10. She calls me from her home to tell me that she went to the church and Jeff isnt there because his truck isnt there. I wanted to scream!!!!!! Of course, his truck isnt there. He rode with me. She was totally confused. She argued with me for at least 10 more minutes before I could make her understand. After another 35-45 minutes, I look to see my knight in shining armour arrive on our church van to rescue me with his spare key. He pulls up to tell me that his spares are in my van. We had to drive all the way down to our house (30 minutes out of town) to get our other spares and then back (30 more minutes) to open the van door. I was pretty chapped at "Goldie" (my van) for the trick she had played on me but was very happy to find that she had kept my groceries cool. I know that this has certainly been a long story but I want you to know that it is now 8:52pm and I have only just now put my groceries away. I learned alot today. Mostly from hanging out at Walmart but I am just too pooped to share that now. Perhaps another day!
