Some time ago Will and Jeff came walking up from the lake lugging a big blue bucket. I am never quite sure what these two may conjure up so I was pleasantly surprised when Will showed me this bucket of "cool looking mud." I looked in to find that it was actual clay. These two had somehow discovered a natural clay pit right down from our house. I was sooooo excited. I love to work with clay. I took some sculpting classes in the past so I do have some rudimentary knowledge of what to do. I mentioned our discovery to one of dear friends/church member. He has recently really gotten into sculpting and wanted to come out and take a look. Since he was coming anyway, I asked him to bring some of his sculpting tools and give us all a lesson. He agreed and brought his wife and grandchildren. We also had our friends the Headricks to come along for this ride. We made a whole afternoon out of it. We all headed to the lake where the discovery was first unearthed. Once we gathered enough to work with we went back to our place for a dinner of crawfish, shrimp, fresh corn on the cob, twice baked potatoes, delicious slaw and salad and cupcakes for dessert. Once we were thoroughly bloated, we convened to the carport for our lesson. There were many "ghost (the movie)" comments and much laughter. Mr. Roland doesn't hear very well so he did not let this deter him from the job at hand. His wife brought along many items that he has already done and even presented me with a pretty little blue coffee cup and a set of praying hands. Mr. Roland decided that he would show us how to make an herb box with a lid. I chose to make an apple and a rabbit. Will made Squidward (co star from sponge bob). Will has made many attempts at old Squidward and each time I have to wonder just how his little brain thinks. Anyway, we had a great time and I certainly look forward to it again in the very near future. I have decided that though I love to work with clay, for now I had best keep my day job!
Today I am thankful for: Friends young and old that bless me with their love.
