Precious Friends

This past weekend Will and I were invited by Stacey (Stallings) Martin to make the trek over to her hometown of Andalusia, AL. Of course, we gladly accepted. I wanted so badly to check on John and Beth Colvin. For those who do not know, Jeff pastored a church just outside of Andalusia called Carolina Baptist for over 8 years. In our time there we made a cast of wonderful friends. One set of those were the Jacobs family. They took us into their home and lives as if we were actually related to them. Beth is their oldest daughter who had just graduated from high school when I met her. She and I became fast friends. The truth was that I was only a few years older than her myself. I had only been married for 6 months when we moved there. It was a very difficult time for me and I certainly needed some close friends. Being a pastors wife were some mighty big shoes to fill. I am afraid that I had absolutely no idea how to even begin. The people of that church were gracious and patient with me. I am grateful for that. Recently Beth's sweet husband, John was diagnosed with cancer. Of course when you hear news like that and you are so very far away , you want to go to that person and just be near the situation. I honestly do not even know John that well but I love him not only because he is my brother in Christ, but also because I love his wife and family. guess it is kinda like the old saying "any friend of your is a friend of mine." I mean that because they love him so much and are hurting, then so am I. Anyway, I did get to see John and he seems to be doing quite well under the circumstances and as an added bonus I got to spend time with some of my favorite people on the planet. Thanks for a great weekend and to all of my Mississippi and Birmingham friends and family; PLEASE continue to pray for John and Beth as he continues his healing from God.

P.S. Also we enjoyed our fun time with Stacey, Kady and the rest of the Stallings gang!
